Exam.

1. To convey the meaning and mood of this photo the lighting is very dark. I think the mood of this photo is depressed, sad or lonely I think this because the way the lighting is set, doesn't show the girls face and also the way she is standing in the picture, gives me the idea that she isn't happy. When i look at this picture i feel alone. There is no one else around and the place she is seems like a place someone would go to be alone and think. I think the story behind this picture could be that something bad has happened to the girl and she needs to be alone to think or even breathe. The emotion inside of me is depressed. i feel depressed because it almost seems like the girl has no where to turn but needs someone to talk to. This image overall gives me these feelings because of the lighting. The light seems to only be focused on one side of her but barley enough to see the emotion on her face.

2. In this image i think the mood is helpless or poor. I can tell from the background of this image, that these people don't have much. I think the photographer is trying to show that there are people in the world that are not as fortunate as others. By their appearance, i can tell that they may not have much of anything. I think another message the photographer is trying to show is that people may not have much money or nice clothes and houses, but they have hope in their family and love each other to get through anything. I think this because of the way the lady holds her baby, close and tight be her side. The emotion inside of me when i look at this picture is hope. When i think about how helpless some people are in the world, i think about how tough the world can be and how thankful i am for what i have. In the image the lady is not center which makes me feel like i am standing near or with her as she asks for help to save her and her child.

3. I think these people are placed to show the life of young people. To me this image shows a playful or fun mood. I think the photographer is telling a story about how it doesn't matter what age you are to have fun and hang around with friends. There is also another side of me that thinks these people are running away from doing something they shouldn't be doing. But again, this shows that you can be crazy with your friends at any age. The emotion i get from this picture is happy. I feel like if i were there i would have a lot of energy. I think this because being around my friends, i know i am always happy and sometimes we can be a little crazy. The way this picture was taken makes me feel like i am standing above watching. Also the lines in the street make me feel like i could be driving or in a car stopped in front of these people watching them cause trouble or whatever it is they might be doing.

4. In this image i think the old lady is posing to show happiness. I think this image shows a mysterious but happy kind of mood. The way her eyes are makes you think about what she is looking at but her smile shows happiness. The story the photographer could be telling might have to do with a stare back. This photo reminds me of a prompt that was chosen which had to do with getting a stare back. This photo also reminds me of something a little kid would do, the eyes looking like they're guilty and smirking because they know they did something they shouldn't have done. The emotion i get from this picture is a mysterious kind of vibe. I feel like maybe something is happening on the other side of the room while she is trying to pose. I think the photo has low depth because under her face starting at her throat you can see how it starts to lose its focus. The same goes for around her earrings or ears.

5. As we discussed in class this image was done to show how back in this time period aids was a big concern. The photographer which happens to be laying on the table and also standing over himself, watches himself die from this horrible disease. The mood this image shows is sadness or loss from a loved one during these difficult times. I know that the story the photographer is trying to tell has to do with dealing with the judgment from others about being gay which was a tough situation to deal with in this time period and also the spreading of aids. The emotion i get from this picture is sad because i know how it feels to lose someone you are close to and this was dealt with a lot back then for those who were effected by aids. I find it interesting how he was able to make it look like a duplicate of himself. Also the lighting and shadows of this photo show the darkness or depression someone could have been facing during this time. The photographer of this photo was Duane Michals.
